Welcome to WinterPaws Arctic Breed Rescue

After two years of saving 32 dogs through rescue, financial assistance, transport, networking and rehoming, WinterPaws is discontinuing its rescue activities.

Rescue takes many, active and committed volunteers, including qualified foster homes.  Without them, an organization cannot be run efficiently, safely and with integrity.  WinterPaws thanks its many volunteers who have given up their time, talents, money and homes to help the wonderful breeds we are so passionate about.

We invite you to continue to browse this website for valuable breed information, to read Jaxon's adventures on his Blog, and for additional resources on the Links & Resources Page.

        Yours very truly,

        Rachel S. Campbell
        Executive Director

        Why are we needed?
Siberian Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes are affectionate, active, beautiful and intelligent.  Yet, they are often misunderstood by people who are not prepared for the very traits they were attracted to in the first place. Huskies can be escape artists and Malamutes are ardent diggers.  Both have a high prey drive and a wanderlust second to none.  Running from point A to point B is what they were bred to do! When strays end up in shelters, they are not often claimed because they have not run 2 miles away, they have run 200 miles away.

Many owners are not prepared for the work required to live with and raise these breeds. If they do not receive proper exercise and training, their stubborness can lead to mischief which can turn into abuse, neglect and abandonment. Please visit our About the Breeds page to learn more about the breeds.
